Jini Kim

Hi! I am a Ph.D. student at Human Computer Interaction Institute at the Carnegie Mellon University, School of Computer Science, where I am co-advised by Profs. Jodi Forlizzi and Hong Shen.

My research empowers end-users and communities to understand the capabilities, design opportunities, and potential AI harms that may arise from their collaboration with Generative AI systems. Building on this foundation, my recent work explores how they can co-design, evaluate, and align Generative AI and LLM-based systems through participatory and human-centered design, while examining how users articulate their needs, values, and alignment practices in the process.

Currently, I collaborate with mental health peer specialists to co-design and align community-centered LLM systems that reflect their lived experiences and collective values.

I obtained my Master's degree in Industrial Design from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). Prior to my master's, I received a B.S. in ICT (Information and Communications Technology) & UX Design from Handong Global University.
